How to Throw a Great Party

Throwing a party can be challenging. It’s hard to know how to set up, what kind of things to have on hand, what kind of food to buy, what music to play, etc. I love getting together with friends and family, my church community, and other groups I am a part of. Consequently, I have had a lot of experience with having people over and putting together parties and other hangouts. I absolutely love hosting people in my own spaces to put on different types of events and celebrate holidays. I love going to parties and events, especially weddings or holiday gatherings. Heck, even funerals can be a good time with the right people. Here are some tips that can hopefully help you throw your next party or event.

One of the most important parts of a good party or gathering is to have the right space to host a certain number of people. When I transitioned to a new home on the other side of the state, I specifically looked for apartments that had a good kitchen and living room space that would accommodate all of the gatherings I was planning to have. Having a good space to let people mingle and hang out is critical to the success of the party. I always designate my living room and kitchen as the main parts to hang out during the party, which makes it easy to have the food lying around.

The food is also critical to the success of your party. Everyone loves eating and having the right assortment of food available at a party can be a make or break deal. The type of party you are having will determine the kind of food that you will want to buy. For instance, if you are throwing a Christmas party during the holidays, it may make sense to buy sweet treats; holiday-themed candy boxes, cookies, and other snacks would be a great addition to your party. Something like a Superbowl party would constitute something like wings, chips, burgers, desserts, or similar things. Knowing information about the people coming over is critical as well. You’ll want to avoid any food allergies or aversions that people may have, and knowing about those beforehand is definitely more ideal than not.

Cleaning up is one of the more brutal parts of throwing a party that people don’t see. Hopefully, your friends and family are not rude or inconsiderate to the point that your house or apartment is completely trashed, but more likely than not, you will have some serious cleaning to do once everyone leaves. What I can suggest is that you have a quality vacuum cleaner on hand, as well as plenty of garbage bags to pick up discarded food items, plates, cups, or other dishes. However, it may be useful to use reusable plates and cups for your party so that you don’t have to be throwing as much plastic away. Make sure to make rounds around your space to pick up candy boxes and leftover plates of food to prevent ants from coming in and making a home out of the place.

I hope this article was helpful and constructive - I wish you luck at your next party or gathering and hope that you use some of the information you learned in this terribly written article.
